A man was allegedly nabbed and beaten up by villagers in the jungles of Bagheri Khurd in Rajasthan’s Alwar district on the suspicion of smuggling cows.

The victim, identified as Sagir Khan, was taking six cows in a pick-up van through a village in Alwar when he was nabbed and roughed up.

The police soon reached the location and took him to Kishangarhbaas hospital. From there, he was referred to Alwar city. Khan is currently undergoing treatment at the trauma centre in Rajiv Gandhi Hospital. He hails from Mirzapur.

The police took the cows to a shelter home and took the pick up van in its custody. The police has also informed the relatives of Sagir Khan and is investigating the case.

“He (Sagir Khan) was admitted in Government Hospital, Kishangarh. Have brought him from there. I had reached there, do not have information of the incident that happened prior to that. The doctor had mentioned a normal injury. He was found in the jungles of Bagheri. He hails from Mirzapur village, falls under Kishangarh police station,” Mohammed Ilyaas, ASI, Kishangarhbaas police station, said.

The incident has come a few months after 28-year-old Rakbar Khan was allegedly beaten to death by a mob in Rajasthan’s Alwar on suspicion that he was smuggling cows. The incident took place in Lalawandi village of Ramgarh district, police said.

Khan, along with another man, was transporting two cows to their village through a forest area, when a group of people severely thrashed him.
