Rangers shoot dead smuggler, recover 48 bottles of alcohol

LAHORE: Punjab Rangers have shot dead an alleged smuggler at Wagah border on the other day, however, his accomplices managed to flee.

According to official sources, Punjab Rangers Jawans observed suspicious activity at the border area where smugglers were trying to cross border from India. The smugglers opened fire as Rangers Jawans ordered them to stop. In retaliation, one smuggler was killed on the spot, while others managed to escape from scene. The Rangers confiscated the 48 bottles of alcohol, left behind the smugglers.

According to Punjab Rangers spokesman, a group of smugglers were trying to smuggle Indian alcohol to Pakistan through Wagah border when they were intercepted by the Rangers.

Later, Punjab Ranger Jawans shifted the body of smuggler to hospital for post-mortem. Name and residence of the smuggler is still to be identified.

Punjab Ranger Director General Major General Umer Faruq Burkey appreciated the performance of Rangers Jawans.
