RAWALPINDI/ISLAMABAD: Hailstorm has poured on twin cities, causing troubles to citizens as rainwater inundated low-lying areas of Rawalpindi.
Likewise, the ongoing spell of rain has badly affected some parts of Islamabad, especially the areas where the metro bus project is underway. The hilly areas like Murree and Natyha Galli received heavy snow and a large number of tourists also started visiting the places.
The rainwater also accumulated on metro bus project track on BB Road, flyovers at Pirwadhai area and on Airport Road, triggering a massive traffic jam.
During the last 24 hours, Garhi Dupatta received 98 mm, Malam Jaba 82 mm, Lower Dir 59mm, Kalam and Saidu Sharif 51mm, Peshawar41 mm, Rawalpindi 21mm and Murree received 20mm of rain.
Farmers along with agricultural scientists are optimistic that if rains continue at regular intervals, water needs of crops would be fulfilled resulting in better production.
District Officer Agriculture Dr Arif Khan said that wheat has been sown on around 320,000 acres of land, most of which depends on rainwater.
Rawal Dam sub-divisional officer Bilal Rana said the level of dam water rose from 1,747 feet to 1,749 feet.
