Rawalpindi ASO seizes 3,800 yard smuggled cloth

ISLAMABAD: The Customs Intelligence and Investigation Rawalpindi’s Anti-Smuggling Organisation has seized the foreign origin non-duty paid 3,800 yard women’s cloth worth Rs 250,000.

In pursuance of information, the ASO team intercepted a Toyota Hiace van bearing registration No LED-14-1870 near Golra More Rawalpindi coming from Peshawar side.

At the time of occurrence one Bhadur was driving the said vehicle while two persons namely Muhammad Danish and Salma Bibi were also accompanied with him along with other passengers.

A thorough search of the vehicle was conducted in presence of witnesses and owners of the cloth which led to the recovery of foreign origin women suiting cloth.

On demand, Muhammad Danish and Salma Bibi claimed the ownership of the recovered foreign origin cloth. However, none of them could produce any evidence regarding legal import or lawful possession of recovered foreign origin cloth. Therefore, the said recovered cloth was seized under Section 168 of the Customs Act, 1969after serving notice u/s. 171 ibid.
