Rawalpindi Customs I&I seizes NDP goods worth Rs169.32m in two months

RAWALPINDI: Directorate of Customs Intelligence and Investigation (I&I) anti-smuggling drives are underway to curb smuggling in the region.

Sources told Customs Today that on the special directives of Director I&I Abdul Waheed Marwat, special teams are set up and anti-smuggling crackdown has been launched in the busy markets of Rawalpindi region like Narkari Bazar, Paan Gali, Raja Bazar and surrounding markets against smuggled goods.

Moreover, sources told that the crackdown has been launched upon the authentic information regarding smuggled items/goods including smuggled cigarette, contraband medicine, cosmetics washing powder, drinks, non-duty paid vehicles and cloths.

Marwat said that Customs Intelligence and Investigation was striving hard and playing vital role to curb the menace of smuggling in the region, and seized non-customs paid goods worth Rs169.32 million in last two months (March and April 2018) including non-duty paid vehicles, smuggled cloth, cigarettes, and miscellanies goods.

Sources further told that the anti-smuggling teams are also directed to be fully vigilant and to pursue after information comes from their informers.

Meanwhile, Customs I&I Rawalpindi is also in full coordination with all other law enforcement agencies, district administration and police for eradicating the menace of smuggling from the region, sources added.
