Rawalpindi Customs Intelligence seizes 9000kg myrobalan along with truck

ISLAMABAD: The Directorate General of Customs Intelligence and Investigation, Rawalpindi foiled a bid to smuggle 9,000 kilogramme of green black myrobalan (hareer) worth Rs 286,200 involving duty/taxes amounting to Rs 128,733, besides impounding carrier vehicle worth Rs 900,000.

As per details, Customs Intelligence Director Nasrullah Derashak received information about smuggling of myrobalan from Azad Kashmir to Islamabad through a truck bearing Registration No MNS-11-2837 on which he assigned task to Additional Director Muhammad Saleem to foil the smuggling attempt.

The additional director formed a team comprising Superintendent Lal Khan, Intelligence Officer Abdul Waheed and others under the supervision of Deputy Director Afzal Khan.

The intelligence team intercepted the said truck on GT near Islamabad and recovered huge quantity of myrobalan packed in bags. The officials asked driver named Abid Hussain to show documents regarding legal import of the recovered items but he could not produce the same.

The driver revealed that the said consignment was booked by a person, Sardar Nafees Asghar at Kashmir Karwan Goods Forwarding Agency Punch, Azad Kashmir.

On not showing customs clearance documents, the customs officials impounded the truck along with the consignment under Section 2 (s) and 16 K of the Customs Act, 1969.

During investigations, the accused persons confessed to smuggle the said items and showed willingness to pay the leviable duty/taxes. Now, the case has been sent to the Customs Adjudication for further legal action.
