Rawalpindi I&I seizes smuggled goods, vehicle worth Rs31.61m during May

RAWALPINDI: Directorate Customs Intelligence and Investigation (I&I) seized Rs31.61 million smuggled goods and vehicles during the month of May 2018.

Customs I&I Director Waheedullah Marwat told Customs Today that during May 2018, the regional directorate also seized other miscellaneous smuggled goods from different offenders during anti-smuggling drive worth of Rs 1.6 million involving duty and taxes of Rs 1.2 million.

He added that during the corresponding month, 4 cases were registered against the smugglers while further investigations are underway.

Rawalpindi Customs Intelligence and Investigation Additional Director Shahid Jan told Customs Today that under the supervision of Rawalpindi Customs I&I Director Abdul Waheed Marwat during the course of anti-smuggling activities in May 2018, the directorate seized Rs31.61 million worth of smuggled goods and vehicles from different parts of the region involving of Rs20.30 million of duty and taxes.

Shahid Jan further told that the regional directorate recovered non-duty paid vehicle from the offenders having worth of Rs. 25.5 million involving Rs18.6 million of duty and taxes and registered a case no. 28/2018 against the unknown offender.

During the course of anti-smuggling crackdown, the Customs I&I also recovered 2,592 kilogram of tamarind and 150 kilogram of dry milk worth of Rs0.2 million involving Rs0.09 million of taxes and duties. The department registered case no. 29/2018 against accused Khalid .

Meanwhile in another anti-smuggling raid, the Customs I&I recovered 168 dozens of hand bags involving Rs0.3 million of duty and taxes while seized the offending vehicle worth of Rs2.5 million. The department registered case no. 30/2018 against accused Ahmed Shair.

He further added that the Customs I&I also recovered 2,367 kilogram of stainless steel worth Rs0.3 million, 1,079 kilogram of  canvas belt having worth of Rs0.1 million, Rs0.1 million of scarf, sunglasses, 4,320 kilogram of brassiere, 1,100 kilogram of apple, smuggled toys involving tax and duties of Rs1.4 million collectively.
