Rawalpindi RTO’s special team starts crackdown against smuggled cigarettes

RAWALPINDI: The Regional Tax Office (RTO), Rawalpindi’s special team has launched crackdown against the illegal sale and storage of smuggled cigarettes in the city.

The RTO has also started monitoring distributors of local cigarette brands. The team has conducted raids on shops/mega stores/malls illegal warehouses used for storage and sale of non tax/duty paid cigarettes.

The decision of creating special teams for launching crackdown against the illicit cigarettes was taken during the Chief Commissioners Conference held last week.

Regional Intelligence, Investigation & Prosecution Unit Assistant Director Shujjat Ali Khan has been made head of the squad, while Senior Auditors Tahir Amir, Usman Shaukat and Inspectors Rashid Shah and Shahzad Bashir are the members of this squad.

The squad has already completed the survey of the territorial jurisdiction of Rawalpindi and compiled all details of the units involved in sale of non duty/tax paid cigarettes. The squad has pointed out major suppliers of smuggled cigarettes in Raja Bazar.
