The sources informed Customs Today that Collector-MCC Appraisement (East) Najeeb-ur-Rehman Abbasi through a letter has asked the authorities concerned of R&D Section to keep strict vigilance over the clearance of “used cooking oil” and ensure that the oil consignments could get clear after laboratory test.

The sources further stated that the Collectorate has got reports that some of the importers are involved in clearance of “used-cooking oil” in the garb of crude oil and that is why the authorities concerned of the Collectorate make it mandatory that the oil consignments must have a laboratory test report for clearance.

It may be mentioned here that the “used-cooking oil” is a contraband item in the Import Policy Order (IPO) according to the Customs Act, 1969 as it is hazardous and serious health threat to the people. The said step has been taken into the light of the evidence that the “used-cooking oil” was being sale in the open market with the mixture of 70-30 ratio. It may be mentioned here that the R&D Section after getting the directives from the authorities concerned has now started to verify the previous record of the clearance of used-cooking oil.
