Rebate Section pays Rs03m refunds to exporters during 15 days of November

ISLAMABAD: The Model Customs Collectorate (MCC) Islamabad paid Rs3.00million of rebate refunds of Customs Duty to exporters during the first 15 days of November of Financial Year 2017-18.

The Collectorate of Islamabad posted 15% growth against the assigned target for rebate refunds for the whole month of November FY17-18. The MCC Islamabad paid Rs4.34million as Customs Duty (CD) during the first 15 days of previous November FY16-17.
The MCC Islamabad paid Rs21.87million of rebate refunds of Customs Duty to exporters during the month of October of Fiscal Year 2017-18 against the allocated target of Rs20million of rebate refunds. The MCC Islamabad showed an achievement of 109.34 % against the earmarked rebate refund target for October FY17-18. The collectorate paid Rs5.00million’s rebate refunds during October FY16-17.
There is a huge quantity of pending rebate claims from previous years. The Exports Rebate Claim Section has been unable to process 16,000 rebate claims till first Quarter of Financial Year (FY) 2017-18. Most of the cases have been pending for the last four years.
The sources of the Exports Section told Customs Today that treasury branch delayed the approval of cheques for exporters at AFU Islamabad. The rebate refunds of the MCC Samberial and MCC Lahore cleared within three to four months the refund claims. The sources told CT that there is a big shortage of staff at the Export Rebate Section which caused delay in the process of rebate refunds.

During the month of August FY17-18, the Rebate Section approved 363 claims amounting to Rs30.00million while 16,792 cases of claims amounting to Rs656.58million are still pending from April to August FY17-18. The sources further told CT that, during August FY16-17, the Rebate Section Islamabad sanctioned 687 cases of rebate refunds worth Rs33.44million while pending rebate claims are 10,070 which valued at Rs402.98million till said period.
