Release of seized items: SHC issues notice to deputy collector customs, adjudication

KARACHI: The Sindh High Court has issued notices to deputy collector of customs adjudication on the plea filed by Naseerullah, seeking release of goods which are seized by the customs authorities. Justice Munib Akhter also directed the respondents to file their comments on the next date of hearing.

The petitioner submitted that he purchased consignment of 30 bundles of clothes legally and lawfully and subject goods placed on free list of relevant import policy order there is presumption that being freely available in the market are legally import as such but staff of the customs ASO seized the goods and vehicle vide customs act 1969.

The petitioner stated that goods were seized without given him any notice. He approached concerned authorities in same connection but no reply has been received so far.  The petitioner pleaded the SHC to set aside order passed by the respondents and direct them release the seized goods as early as possible.
