Removal of MIS payments tab sparks confusion among taxpayers

ISLAMABAD: In yet another surprising move, the Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) has removed the MIS – Payments Details tab, which previously allowed taxpayers to view data of taxes deducted. This sudden change, announced on 29th September, has left taxpayers and consultants baffled.

While FBR Maloomat remains active, the abrupt removal of critical features adds to the ongoing confusion. Over the past year, FBR has been introducing updates without proper timing or approvals—be it the fair market value dilemma, issuance of tax forms at the eleventh hour, or silent alterations in return fields.

Tax professionals argue that FBR had a full year since the budget announcement to release stable tax return forms. Yet, last-minute column additions, deletions, and automated updates on the filing deadline create unnecessary havoc.

It raises a serious question: Is there no accountability for FBR’s experimental approach? Taxpayers deserve clarity and stability, not surprises on crucial dates.
