Report sought in 48 hours: Nawaz for comprehensive system to avert breakdown in future

ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif, chairing a high level meeting to review energy crisis, has directed the authorities concerned to update or put in place a comprehensive system to avert power breakdown in future.

Nawaz Sharif directed that technical report of the blackout be presented in forty eight hours. He also directed the law-enforcement agencies to beef up security of water and power installations.

Sharif directed the authorities concerned that measures should be taken to reduce power loadshedding throughout the country. He said that the government has launched several new power projects that would help overcome energy crisis in the country.

The meeting reviewed that stocks position and availability of furnace oil to power generation companies. Power situation following massive nationwide breakdown was also discussed.

The federal minister for water and power gave a detailed briefing on causes of the breakdown and restoration of power supply. The meeting also discussed availability of petrol throughout the country especially in Punjab.

Minister for Water and Power Khawaja Asif briefed the Prime Minister on the factors that caused the massive breakdown and updated him on the current power supply situation in the country. He said the situation is gradually improving and soon the system would be brought back to normal.
