Lahore: Parliamentary leader Punjab Assembly and incharge Jamat e Islami Punjab Doctor Waseem Akhtar has moved a resolution in Provincial Assembly against duty Free Imports of agricultural products from India.
The resolution aims to stop the duty free imports of agricultural items like potatoes, onion, garlic and tomatoes from India.
Farmers are protesting against duty free import from India. Local farmers claim that Indian agriculture subsidy is well over 100 billion dollars while farmers in Pakistan are heavily taxed.
Growers’ organizations during a press conference at Lahore Press Club few days earlier have demanded government to cancel notification of duty free imports of 137 items from India.
