PESHAWAR: Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister Parvaiz Khattak has directed the heads of all provincial departments to devise a plan for the use of unutilized state land to boost the revenue of the province.
Presiding over a high-level meeting here at the Chief Minister House, Khattak said the move would help the government departments generate revenues and attain self sufficiency. Among others, Senior Minister Sikandar Hayat Sherpao, Finance Minister Muzaffar Syed and Education Minister Mohammad Atif Khan attended the meeting.
The chief minister directed the heads of the departments for early identification and proper utilization of the state owned land for commercial purposes to increase provincial revenues. He also ordered hiring of consultants and constitution of committees in each department in this regard. He directed to give final touch to the process by the end of June.
Khattak also appointed Secretary Relief Ahmad Hanif Orakzai in-charge to monitor the project. He directed for initiating the necessary legislation to make the project workable. The chief minister also ordered auction of obsolete machinery stored in the mechanical workshop of Irrigation Department.
Targets for revenue generation by various departments were also fixed during the meeting. The Department of Communications and Works was asked to generate Rs 2 billion, while Department of Agriculture Rs 1 billion. Similarly, the Department of Environment was directed to generate Rs 600 million, Industry Department Rs 2 billion, Mines and Minerals Department Rs 2.2 billion, Local Government Rs 2 billion, Department of Irrigation Rs 1 billion, Peshawar Development Authority Rs 6 billion, Excise and Taxation Department Rs 14 billion and Department of Auqaf R .500 million.
