LONDON: If you love Super Mario, this one’s for you. Avant-garde swiss watchmaker Romain Jerome has launched yet another watch as a tribute to celebrate the 30th anniversary of genre-defining 8-bit game, Super Mario.
And this would not be a Romain Jerome watch without having something special. The watch that comes with a large 46 mm bezel showcases a 3D-style dial that will take you back to the 8-bit era of gaming with your Nintendo. The artistry on the dial consists of familiar elements from the game, which have all been hand painted (with enamel) down to their pixellated 8-bit details. The case of the watch is made of titanium and priced at a hefty $18,950 (pricing varies by region).
More interesting is the mode of delivery. While Romain Jerome does have dealers in the US, UK and Australia, customers can even order the timepiece online. Those who order the watch online can pick them up in person as CNET points out. The watch maker will even bear the cost of travel and accommodation for the same for its customers in Europe.
This is indeed not the first video game-themed watch that Jerome has pulled off, there have been models in the past that featured, Pac-Man, Space Invaders and Tetris Warriors as well. Of course, you could simply change the watch face of your smartwatch to show off a Super Mario animation, but Romain Jerome’s watches are special. The Space Invaders watch came with a special back plate that contained low-oxidation silver mixed with real moon rocks.
