BUCAREST: Romania’s unemployment rate rose to 6.6% in May, from 6.4% in April, the national statistics office (INS) said on Friday. Compared to May 2015, the jobless rate was 0.2 percentage points lower, the office said in a statement.
The number of unemployed in Romania was 581,000 in May, up from 573,000 in April but below the May 2015 level of 622,000. The jobless rate among women was 5.6% in May versus 7.3% among men. Romania’s workforce is estimated at about 9.0 million out of a population of some 20.1 million.
