RPOs to be finalised by 23rd: Dar reviews process of sales tax refunds

ISLAMABAD: Federal Finance Minister Mohammad Ishaq Dar has reviewed the process of sales tax refunds and their breakup in different sectors, which were promised in budget 2016.

The finance minister discussed the current position of the sales tax refunds with Special Assistant to prime minister on Revenue Haroon Akhtar and Federal Board of Revenue Chairman Nisar Muhammad Khan during a meeting at the Finance Division.

It was decided that those claims in respect of which refund payment orders (RPO) had been issued till April 30, 2016 would be finalised by August 23, 2016. Claims where RPOs were issued up to June 30, 2016 would be considered and finalised later.

The finance minister directed that every effort should be made to facilitate the business community, including exporters. He expressed the hope that finalisation of sales tax refunds would help in increasing the business activity in the country.

The meeting was also attended by senior officials of Federal Board of Revenue and Ministry of Finance.
