Rs 61b additional revenue: Govt makes 93.40% recoveries in power sector in 2015

ISLAMABAD: The government succeeded to make 93.40 per cent recoveries in power sector and generated additional income of Rs 61 billion during calendar year 2015.

Official sources told APP here that better performance and prudent decisions have brought the much needed stability in the power sector. He said recoveries witnessed 4.80 percent increased as compared to the previous year where recoveries remained 88.60 percent. Besides achieving upward trend in recoveries, the line losses were reduced to 18 per cent from 19.1 per cent during the said period, the sources said.

They said record Rs10 billion was saved on account of reducing line losses to around 1.1 percent. They said that 50 percent power load-shedding has reduced owing to the steps taken by the government. They said power tariff was not only reduced but also the industrial sector was fully exempted from power load-shedding for the first time in the country’s history to meet the export orders.

The sources said six to eight hour power load shedding was being carried out in the urban and rural areas of the country. They said that the government has expedited work on various power projects having accumulative capacity of 10,500 MW with the assistance of China. The menace of load-shedding would be over after completion of this short term power projects, they added.
