Rs0.8m to be paid on death, Rs0.3m on injury: Pakistan Railways signs pact for insurance of passengers

LAHORE: The government is struggling to maintain the Pakistan Railways as per international standards. Keeping this aim in view, an agreement has been signed with the Postal Life Insurance for insurance of the passengers.

The general managers of both the departments signed the agreement at the railways headquarter, where Federal Minister for Railways Khawaja Saad Rafique was also present.

As per the agreement, the family of the rail passenger in case of death would be paid Rs800,000 as insurance while injured will get Rs300,000. The insurance policy of the railways employees would also be announced soon. Agreement will be valid for three years while another two years will be an extendable period.

The payment of claims would be made in 45 days. The Postal department claimed the insurance would be given on no-profit, no-loss basis.

Khawaja Saad Rafique said termed the insurance of the passengers a milestone in the departments’ history. He held the railways would continue its journey towards development. The minister said that the PR had started preparing recommendations for Public Sector Development Programme (PSDP) 2015-16.
