ISLAMABAD: Capital Development Authority (CDA) is going to replace old streetlights with LED lights on major avenues of the federal capital, which would help CDA save Rs10 million per annum in terms of reduction in electricity bills of streetlights.

All the cost of the project will be borne by the private firms and there will be no financial burden on CDA for this project. In the first phase of the project LED lights are being installed on one hundred and eleven (111) poles on Faisal Avenue from Faisal Mosque to I-8 signal.

The LED lights are being installed in collaboration with NESCOM. The private firm NESCOM will provide these lights at concession rates, reportedly. The project will also enable CDA to save reasonable quantity of electricity, as 175-Watt bulbs, which would save 75 Watts per bulb, would replace existing 250-Watt bulbs.

CDA Chairman Maroof Afzal has directed the Director Municipal Administration to start the project of installation of LED lights on experimental basis so that it could be extended to the other areas of Islamabad. He said that during the next phase these lights would be installed on all major roads and avenues of the capital.

CDA spokesman Asim Khichi said, “The entire cost of the project will be borne by private firms and CDA will not bear any financial burden for this project.”
