KARACHI: Sindh Chief Minister Syed Qaim Ali Shah, presiding over a joint meeting of Fisheries & Livestock Department and Planning & Development, has directed the officials to complete Fishermen Colony at Manchhar by the end of May.
Minister for Fisheries & Livestock Jam Khan Shoro, Principal Secretary to CM Alamuddin Bullo, Secretary Finance Sohail Rajput, ACS (Development) Waseem Ahmed, Secretary Fisheries & Livestock Noor Mohammad Leghari and other concerned senior officers were also present in the meeting.

The Minister for Fisheries & Livestock informed the CM that the department has launched fishermen colonies at Kinjhar, Manchhar and Zero-point Badin at a cost of Rs482 million. Each colony has 100 housing units. Apart from two-room, corridor and courtyard with toilets each colony has a community centre, a mosque, school and dispensary.
He said that the colony established at Manchar is almost been completed. 78 housing units have been constructed. The colony at Keejhar is ready to inaugurate but a portion of its civil work is yet to be completed.
On the request of Shoro, the CM directed finance department to release required funds to the livestock department so that it could be completed by the end of next month. It may be noted that the fishermen colony at Keenjhar is located on the main road leading to Hyderabad.
The minister said that livestock has launched these schemes for Rs1441 million. Under the scheme 25 shades are being established in each colony where about 100 cattle could be kept in a better atmosphere.
These colonies, excluding of Khairpur would be completed by the end of this financial year. “The farmers would be given shades with an attendant room and a store room on a 30 year extendable lease on easy instalments.” he said.
The additional Chief Secretary (Development), Waseem Ahmed briefing the meeting said that in the ADP livestock and Fisheries sector has 27 schemes, of them 22 are ongoing and four are new and one is of World Bank scheme.
