Rs2.97/unit reduction in power tariff: Nepra approves CPPA plea, K-Electric to follow old rates

ISLAMABAD: While allowing a petition of Central Power Purchasing Agency (CPPA) for slashing electricity per unit rates, the National Electric Power Regulatory Authority (Nepra) cut down power tariff by Rs2.97 per unit for the month of November under monthly fuel charges adjustment.

The tariff cut is for all power distribution companies except K-Electric.

Reports said that summary for the tariff cut was tabled during a meeting of the Cabinet Committee on Energy that was chaired Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif. In the meeting it was presented that an approximate amount of Rs28 billion was saved from the generation cost during the month of November 2014, out of which Rs8 billion were saved due to falling oil prices and Rs20 billion were saved due to better management and merit order generation which resulted in savings of 250,000 metric tonnes of oil consumption during the said month.

Similarly the CPPA submitted that it generated total 6,655 GWh, electricity, costing Rs 28,576.91 million. After transmission losses and sale to IPPs, 6,534 GWh was delivered to Discos.It submitted that on the basis of generation data decrease of 2.9170 per kilowatt hour was incurred as compare to the reference fuel charges of Rs. 7.4167 per kilowatt, set by the authority.
