Rs48.321m, Rs49.27m, Rs14m corruption: NAB decides to file 3 references, start 3 inquiries

ISLAMABAD: National Accountability Bureau (NAB) Chairman Qamar Zaman Chaudhary, during the executive board meeting, has said that the Bureau is committed to eliminate corruption through fair and transparent investigations and vigorous prosecution in courts.

The meeting, held at NAB headquarters, has decided to file three references, authorise three inquiries, complete two verifications and close two inquiries.

The NAB chairman directed all officials of NAB to put best efforts in the conduct of complaint verifications, inquiries and investigations against the corrupt in accordance with law, transparently and merit.

The executive board meeting decided to file three references in the respective accountability courts. First reference will be filed against Imran Ghani, owner of M/s Usman Textile Mill; Syed Naeem Akhtar, Deputy Collector Sales Tax Department; Noorullah Samejo, Deputy Superintendent Sale Tax Department; Muhammad Ajaib, Account Opening Officer of Askari Commercial Bank Karachi and imtiaz Ahmed Dev, former Additional Collector Sales Tax Department for receiving illegal sales tax refund amounting to Rs48.321 million.

Second reference approved was against Noor Muhammad, owner of M/s Noor Textile Mills and officers/officials of sales tax department for obtaining illegal sales tax refund of Rs49.27 million.

Third reference approved against Dr Shafi Muhammad Zehri, Ex-Secretary HealthBalochistan, Dr Amjad Ansari, Ex-Deputy Chief Planning Officer, Dr Abdul Ghaffar Kayani, Ex-Additional Director and Dr Akhtar Hameed, Contractor. In this case, the accused persons were alleged for corruption of Rs14 million in the purchase of MRI machine for Bolan Medical College Quetta.

The meeting also decided to authorise other zones to start inquiries in other cases of Rs13270 million, Rs14.50 million, Rs37.6 million and Rs53.566 million embezzlement.
