Rs625m for food security projects under PSDP

ISLAMABAD: The government has released Rs 624.912 million for different developmental projects of Ministry of National Food Security and Research under Public Sector Development Programme (PSDP) 2015-16.

According the data of Planning Commission of Pakistan, the government has released Rs79.292 million for research for agriculture development programme as against the total allocation of Rs428.229 million for current fiscal year.

To overcome the edible oil import bill of the country, government had launched promotion of olive cultivation on commercial scale across the potential areas and earmarked an amount of Rs300m in PSDP 2015-16 where as it has released Rs117.500 million during the period under review.

In order to fulfil the World Trade organization standards and enhance live stock exports, government has released Rs45.700 million for special programme for strengthening of SPS facilities and quality inspection services and establishment of an integrated national animal and plant health inspection services.

The government has allocated Rs45.700 million in PSDP 2015-16 for the above mention project where as the total cost of project was estimated at Rs460.7 million.

Under development programme for the current financial year, government has so far released Rs80 million as compared to total allocation of Rs200 million for indigenization of Hybrid seed production for enhanced crop production to enhance per acre crop output in the country.

An amount of Rs40 million has also been released for national pesticides resides residues monitoring system against the total allocation of Rs. 100 million for current fiscal year. Whereas Rs20 million was released for Pak-China Cooperation for Agricultural Research and Development (PCCARD) as Rs50 million allocated for the projects in PSDP 2015-16.

The government has also released Rs14.570 million for establishment of livestock research institute, Turbat Balochistan for promoting and developing the livestock sector of the province as Rs34.112 million allocated for the project during current fiscal year.

Meanwhile a sum of Rs4 million and Rs17.958 million have been released for kitchen gardening for producing safe and nutrient filled vegetables and monitoring of crops through satellite technology respectively during period under review.

It may be recalled that work on three projects were 76-100 completed, two projects were at 51-75 percent of completion and physical progress of 12 projects were 25 percent completed.
