The four opposition senators had moved a call attention notice in the house over the government’s decision to increase the process of natural gas from 10 percent to 65 percent for consumers.

State Minister of Petroleum and Natural Resources Jam Kamal Khan, responding to the call attention notice, said that the government had not yet taken any final decision to increase the prices of natural gas from the first of January.

He explained that Sui Southern Gas Company Limited (SNGCL) and Sui Northern Gas Pipelines Limited (SNGPL) are facing Rs62 billion revenue shortfall and this is the reasons behind the proposal of increase in gas prices as both have set revenue targets.

The state minister said that there were different slabs of gas prices for different sectors including domestic, fertilizer, power, cement and CNG. “We are reviewing different slabs and a decision has yet to be taken,” he said.
