LAHORE: The Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) Regional Tax Office-I chief commissioner has withheld the performance allowance of as many as six inspectors.
Sources said that the chief had taken this action due to unsatisfactory performance of the officials. They added that the department had assigned the authority to the chief of the regional office to check the performance of the officials on a regular basis. The authorities were observing the performance of all the officials to bring transparency and speed in their duties.
The employees were assigned duties to facilitate the taxpayers and resolve their issues.
On the other hand, the FBR union members criticised the action of the chief commissioner against the inspectors. They said that the chief was the head of the regional office who must consider counter arguments of officials before imposing any penalty. They added that no doubt mistakes could happen by officials but the department should provide them a chance to explain. It is important to mention that the performance allowance is equal to their basic pay.
The union members claimed that they were also being victimised by the authorities just because of raising their voice for the rights of the lower staff. They said that the chief had lodged FIRs against the union members to stop them from raising a voice for the rights of FBR employees.
