RTO-II team visits companies to monitor salaries disbursement: Deputy Commissioner Asim Naseer Manj

LAHORE: The Regional Tax Office-II (RTO-II) team paid surprise visits to companies to check status of salary disbursement among employees. The RTO team also detected that whether these companies were paying their tax liabilities according to their income or not.

This was stated by RTO-II Deputy Commissioner Withholding Zone Asim Naseer Manj during an exclusive interview with Customs Today. He added that Regional Tax Office-II (RTO-II) has started to finalize a list of taxpayers to educate them about the newly launched system after the change of jurisdiction and separation of corporate and non-corporate taxpayers.

Talking about the jurisdiction Asim Naseer said that the withholding zone of Regional Tax Office-II (RTO-II) is collecting taxes from textile industries located in Lahore, Sheikhupura, Nankana Sabib, Kasur and Okara.

Deputy Commissioner said that withholding zone collects taxes after audit and raise the revenue through pursuing pending recoveries. He said external audit facilitate to meet the target and source of huge tax collection.

Answering a question, Asim said that latest software introduce by the Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) Integrated Risk Information System ‘IRIS’ make easy to understand all the taxation system.

He said that tax collection is difficult from individuals but RTO-II withholding zone working efficiently and collecting more taxes to meet the revenue collection target. He told that textile sector falls under the jurisdiction of Regional Tax Office (RTO-I) but after the separation of corporate and non-corporate tax payers textile sector shifted from RTO-I to RTO-II.

Asim said that textile sector is expanding in Pakistan and tax collection through this sector also a big challenge. “In the renowned companies the tax collection from the salaries of directors came under the jurisdiction of Large Taxpayer Unit (LTU) and RTO-II just collect taxes from other employees of the companies” he added.

He told that RTO-II withholding zone formed teams for surprise visit of the companies to check and monitor the disbursement of salaries of the officers of the companies. He said that during surprise visits RTO-II teams also detected tax evasion and recovered marginable amount.

Deputy Commissioner said each team assigned the task to create awareness among taxpayers. RTO teams start proper monitoring of the salaries of the taxpayers to strengthen nation economy.

Asim Naseer added that leadership qualities, confidence and motivation by Chief Commissioner RTO-II Khawaja Adnan Zaheer is main reason that RTO showed outstanding performance.

He told he always discussed important matters with seniors on daily basis and learns from their experiences, motivation by Chief Commissioner Khawaja Adnan Zaheer always encourage  him.

He told that Commissioner withholding zone Dr. Shahid Saddique, Additional Commissioner Atif Bashir, Muhammad Ali and Deputy Commissioner Muhammad Sajid Ahmed performing duties sincerely to expand tax collection.

He said that trust-based working atmosphere key to success. For capacity building of the officials, training workshop were arranged to discuss different issues of tax laws, he added.
