Rumford man ordered to repay $38,000 for evading taxes

PARIS: A Rumford man has been ordered to repay the state almost $36,000 after pleading guilty to falsifying his tax returns by claiming he lived in New Hampshire.

Scott Knowlton was indicted on three felony counts of tax evasion and six misdemeanor counts of failure to pay taxes, but under a plea agreement, the felonies were amended to misdemeanors and the 57-year-old Knowlton pleaded guilty to all charges. He was given a one-year jail sentence, with all but 45 days suspended.
