MOSCOW: Russia plans to double wheat exports to Mexico, to 1 million tonnes, the Agriculture Ministry reported, citing the head of the minister, Alexander Tkachev. “We supplied nearly 500,000 tonnes of wheat worth $84 million in 2016 and want to expand the supplies of wheat to 1 million tonnes,” Tkachev said at a meeting with Mexican Ambassador to Russia Norma Bertha Pensado Moreno.
Tkachev is the co-chairman of the Russian-Mexican intergovernmental commission. Trade in agricultural products between the two countries increased 50% last year to $150 million. Russian exports to Mexico tripled in value terms thanks to the exports of wheat. In the last six years, overall trade between Russia and Mexico has more than doubled to $1.7 billion in 2016. The meeting participants agreed to study the possibility of conducting a sixth meeting of the intergovernmental commission in Q1 2018 in Mexico.
