TEHRAN: The Russian Agriculture Watchdog (RGW) has given the green light to dairies imports from Iran. According to RGW official Alexi Alksyynkv, the decision comes after qualitative checks on Iranian dairy products have successfully met standard requirements.
However, to have dairy products practically imported to Russia, there is need for the signing of a bilateral agreement on safe transfer of dairy products to Russia.
In August 2014, Moscow imposed a ban on food imports from the United States, the European Union, Canada, Australia, and Norway in response to economic sanctions imposed on Russia over its alleged role in escalating the Ukrainian crisis.
The ban aimed at meat, fish, poultry and milk products, nuts, fruits and vegetables. Iran, Argentina, Brazil, Ecuador and Mexico have expressed their willingness to boost food exports to Russia.
Russia’s imports, including foods products, from its European suppliers have almost come to a halt during the time. The country’s foods imports are subject to strict regulations and standards, bordering on those exercised by European countries. It should be noted that Russian watchdogs test vegetables and foods imports continuously through random sampling for quality grounds.
