NEW YORK: The popular 57-year-old cosmonaut, Gennady Padalka, made a remarkable landing in the space by taking a selfie during spacewalk.
With this, he joined the league of the selected few who have managed taking a selfie during spacewalk.
Padalka has already been credited for setting records during spacewalk. He earlier set the record of spending 859 days above the Earth’s atmosphere. However, he is not the first to have clicked a selfie in space.
Buzz Aldrin was the first cosmonaut to have taken a selfie during the Gemini 12 mission in 1966. Later, Anton Shkaplerov did so in February during his expedition 42 to the International Space Station.
The International Space Station is located over 200 miles above the Earth. Communicating through the orbit is also considered a tough job.
However, last week, Adrian Lane from Gloucestershire, England, set a new record by not only managing to contact the station but also remaining on call for over 45 seconds.
For communication, the astronauts make use of own ham radio. These radios are to be utilized with technical expertise. There are different kinds of licenses that work for different countries for using the radios.
For instance, in England, but sending radio messages requires users to clear an exam. In the US, on the other hand, three different licenses work.
