Russian exports of IT services reach $7bln in 2015

MOSCOW: Russia exported IT services to the value of $7 billion in 2015, Minister of Communications and Mass Media Nikolay Nikiforov said Wednesday.

“According to the data, in 2015, Russian IT specialists, programmers and developers secured the export of IT services valued at $7 billion,” Nikiforov said during a question-and-answer session in the Russian parliament.

The minister highlighted that there were 12 IT technology parks in Russia, with its residents generating revenue of 50 billions rubles (around $750 million) in 2015.

“There are 900 companies working there [in IT technology parks], supporting around 20,000 jobs. Interestingly enough, in general it is a very young people, their average age is around 27-28 years old. However, they are able to secure such a good economic outcomes,” Nikiforov added.

Nikiforov also stated that there is a huge demand for Russian IT specialists. Accordingly, the number of state-funded places in universities preparing IT specialists has been increased.
