Russian steel scrap exports rebounds 5.17mt in 2015

MOSCOW: The most recent trade statistics released by Russia indicates that the country’s steel scrap exports rebounded during June ’15. The country’s scrap exports had declined sharply during the month of May this year.

The country’s scrap exports during the month of June alone totaled 603,000 tons. The exports witnessed considerable rise of 11.3% year-on-year. The Russian scrap exports during June last year had totaled 542,000 tons. When matched with May this year, the scrap exports during June ’15 surged higher by 22.6%. Russia’s steel scrap exports during May ’15 had totaled 492,000 tons.

The largest export destination of Russian scrap during the month was Turkey. The Russian exports to Turkey totaled 286,000 tons, accounting for nearly 47% of the total Russian exports. The exports to Turkey increased sharply by 22.3% year-on-year. The second largest export destination was Belarus. The exports from Belarus rose 51.6% over the previous year to 111,000 tons.

According to trade data, Russia exported 2.757 million tons of scrap during the first half-yearly period in 2015. The exports during the period were slightly higher by 0.8% when compared with the exports during the corresponding six-month period in 2014. The Russian scrap exports had totaled 2.735 million tons during January to June last year.

The country’s average monthly scrap exports amounted to 460,000 tons.

The Russian scrap exports are expected to total 5.17 million tons during the entire year 2015.
