LONDON: OCZ Storage Solutions announced that its Saber 1000 Series solid state drives will now have Host Managed SSD technology.
The HMS allows hosts to manage different aspects of the drive to boost performance and provide a more consistent latency to the drives. HMS in the Saber line will enable certain background processing tasks to be managed such as garbage collecting, which will give the drives, even in a large storage pool, higher performance and better latency.
With emerging technologies such as hyperscale, cloud, and software-defined storage (SDS) large storage pools of SSDs, at times stretching across multiple servers, need to be managed and need to provide predictable latency and performance.
The Saber 1000 series, designed by the California based Toshiba owned company OCZ, is created keeping in mind these exact requirements. With the inclusion of HMS, datacenters will experience more consistent performance and speeds with the same price tag as non-HMS version SSDs of the Saber 1000 series.
The HMS enabled drives are available in 480GB and 960GB sizes, both with 2.5” form factor. OCZ is also providing a reference design and demonstration platform that allows benchmarking to test out system performance in real time. A software library and Programmer’s Guide round up the package so HMS can easily be integrated.
The OCZ Saber 1000 HMS drives are expected to be available in November and will be priced at $370 for the 480GB and $713 for the 960GB.
