LAHORE: The Sales tax collection by the Federal Government without the approval of the cabinet was challenged in the Lahore High Court (LHC). The Civil Society Network filed the application through Advocate Azhar Saddique.
According to the details, complainant raised the points in the appeal that the government had been collecting 23.5 percent Sales Tax instead of 17 percent which caused the public 40 percent payment of high sales tax in petroleum prices.
The appellant also raised a point that, after the dissolution of federal cabinet, the prices of Sales Tax have been increased without the approval of the federal cabinet. This act of the government is against the Constitution of Pakistan and Rules of Business.
The petitioner also raised a point that the government can raise the prices of petroleum products through the approval of cabinet. He also pleased with the court that it may ban the sales tax on the petroleum products.
