WASHINGTON: Samsung, like many other smartphone creators today, is a little late to the party when it comes to releasing Android 5.0 Lollipop to their lineup of devices, specifically for the Samsung Galaxy Note 3 and Samsung Galaxy S5. Both mobile devices have previously received the new operating system update in Russia, which was a test market for the manufacturer ahead of a widespread release. Thankfully, that promised release appears to be happening sooner rather than later, as GottaBeMobile reports new details for the launch of the update within the United States.
Earlier this week, Samsung released the first phase of the Touchwiz-powered Android 5.0 Lollipop within the United States. The Verizon version of the Galaxy S5 was the first device to receive the update for Galaxy users within the United States, but it certainly won’t be the final smartphone or tablet to offer the release. There are a few more carriers within the country currently working on their own release, which will include the Samsung Galaxy Note 3 amongst the noted devices offering the operating system update.
Sprint confirmed the upcoming launch within January, though they refused to specify an exact time frame for Android 5.0 on their devices. The update was subsequently leaked in a test build form not long after that announcement. Now, however, the smartphone carrier is working behind the scenes to push the new update out the door to its users.
The official Sprint website also reveals the company is working to release the update on the Samsung Galaxy Note 3, though it is listed as Android 5.0 and not as Android 5.0.1 like many were hoping. The listing does not confirm anything regarding a release date, unfortunately, but it does point to an upcoming release shortly. Most likely Sprint will complete rolling out the update for the Galaxy S5 before releasing on the Note 3.
Samsung tends to release their updates in stages, allowing the company to fix any problems ahead of a wider release in other markets. That is what the test market of Russia was all about when they release recently. So far, however, the update appears to be in good standing on the Samsung Galaxy Note 3, which means other variants of the device should have the new release within the coming days or weeks. Samsung has taken months to release an operating system update in the past, so be patient.
