SEOUL: Samsung Galaxy S4 users will get a taste of the new Android L 5.0 Lollipop update soon.
Android Pit recently reported that users of the Samsung Galaxy S4 in Europe would soon be getting the 5.0.1 version of the Lollipop update. In its report, it cited Italian website Optima Italia which revealed that the firmware was already spotted in Germany. It also revealed that this could possibly mean that the update will soon roll out in the continent. Note that the Android update had already been made available to S4 users in Russia and India. As for the United States users of the device, T-Mobile, AT&T, Verizon, and Sprint Galaxy S4 subscribers have yet to receive the update for their phones.
The roll out of the said update in Europe would start in about two to three weeks. But the news outlet’s writer Doug Lynch has some reservations about the said reports.
“This is nothing more than a rumoured leak and it should be treated as such. I don’t have enough experience with Opt magazine to know how reputable their leaks are. So take this information with a grain of salt because there’s no telling how true it is. Still, if true, it gives us an idea as to when we can expect to see the Android 5.0.1 Lollipop update on the Samsung Galaxy S4 GT-I9505 variant in and around the concerned region. We can only imagine that if Samsung has released the update to select countries in Europe, then we can expect it to be sent to all the surrounding regions as well,” he said in his report.
Moving on to another Samsung device, Christian Today reported that there is a possibility that Samsung Galaxy S3 users will not get the Lollipop update. The main reason is that there is somewhat an “unwritten rule” that Samsung devices that have been released two years before the OS rollout would no longer get upgraded. The news outlet notes that the Galaxy S3 was released in May 2012 while the S4 was released in March 2013. There have already been reports detailing the roll out of the update to the Galaxy S4, as revealed at this article’s first part. However, no reports about the S3 getting the update have popped out.
The same Christian Today report also said that the Galaxy Note 2 would also receive the update soon.
