LONDON: Before the release of the iPhone 6, the internet was boiling with rumors about its specs. Meanwhile, the iPhone 6 stepped into the shadows and all the lights are now on the upcoming Galaxy S6 which is expected to make its appearance very soon. According to rumors, the Galaxy S6 participated incognito at the CES 2015 and it was presented to a select group, behind closed doors. Based on the specs that were listed by GSMArena, we’ll make a comparison between the Galaxy S6 and Apple’s iPhone 6.
The needs keep evolving and the phone manufacturers have to adapt and bring additional features, better designs and superior hardware components. Apple knew that an expansion in size is required and made the iPhone 6 with a screen of 4.7inches, also increasing its resolution up to 750×1334 pixels, but the pixel density remained the same at 326ppi. Apple didn’t ditch the popular anodized aluminum, but instead, they rounded up the edges and replaced the wide bands on the back, from the top and bottom, with two thin horizontal strips.
The device weights 129grams and it’s very light taking into consideration its dimensions, and we’ll mention the thickness of 6.9mm and the height of 138.1mm. The LED-backlit IPS LCD uses a shatter proof glass as protection against fine scratches. On the front panel, Apple placed the famous fingerprint scanner (TouchID) inside the physical button, but from now on, you’ll be able to make online purchases from Apple’s Store via Apple Pay.
The Galaxy S6 will be totally revamped thanks to the Project Zero, which required full attention from the entire crew, which had to start building the device from scratch. There were voices saying that Samsung will go for full-metal, after introducing the metallic frame on the Galaxy Alpha, but until now, we haven’t seen a leaked image of the upcoming Galaxy S6.
The screen is speculated to measure 5.2inches and its resolution will be 1440×2560 pixels at 554ppi. Other rumors mentioned a curved screen like the one from the Galaxy Note Edge, but we’ll wait until this information will be confirmed or infirmed. The Galaxy S6 will inherit its predecessor’s features: dust and water resistance and the fingerprint sensor, which is PayPal certified.
Hardware
Samsung will step into arena with a brand new 64bit Exynos 7420 chipset with two quad core processors clocked at 1.3GHz and 1.9GHz, which will support high speed LTE and will run intensive games and applications with the Mali-T760 GPU, which is backed by 3GB of RAM. Alternatively, Samsung will most likely release a second variant with a a Snapdragon 810 64bit octa-core chip, which will be shipped to Europe and North America.
Apple equipped the iPhone 6 with a faster 64bit A8 dual core 1.4GHz Cyclone processor which is ARM v8-based, and paired it with a M8 co-processor (a motion sensor used for health and navigation applications). The graphics are PowerVR GX6450, and this configuration doesn’t need more than 1GB of RAM to run complex games.
Cameras
The iPhone 6 received some critics because Apple didn’t increase the number of pixels on the new model, keeping the iSight camera on the back at a resolution of 8MP. But something has changed. In fact, many features received upgrades, such as a faster autofocus or a more effective low light performance.
When the Galaxy S5 came, it came along with a 16MP ISOCELL sensor, which captures better images and videos, but Samsung’s thirst is unstoppable and it seems that the company is developing a 20MP camera for the upcoming Galaxy S6.
