LONDON: 2014m was considered as the year of Smartwatches where every technology giant entered into the race of making more and more updated wristwatch. In this regard 2014 is the success year for Samsung Smartwatch as Samsung leads 2014 with a total 1.2 million sales.
The kickstarter Pebble comes second which sold 700,000 units.
Other big manufacturers in the same space such as Fitbit, Sony, Lenovo, and LG followed Samsung and Pebble with 600,000, 550,000, 500,000 and 420,000 unit sales respectively. In total, Statista found that 6.8 million smartwatches had been sold globally in 2014, at an average price of $189 (roughly Rs. 11,800).
Last month, market research firm Canalys had claimed that Google’s Android Wear platform saw rather poor sales in 2014. The research firm published a shipment analysis of the smartwatches and smartbands, noting that “over 720,000 Android Wear devices shipped in 2014 out of a total of 4.6 million smart wearable bands.”
Canalys found Motorola was the clear leader among Android Wear vendors, although the Moto 360 supply had remained constrained through Q4 2014. On the other hand, LG G Watch R is said to have performed significantly better than its predecessor – the original G Watch.
