PARIS: However, whether Z3 will ever set its feet on United Kingdom soil can only be answered by someone within Samsung’s strategic decision-making fold.

The Samsung Z3 Tizen smartphone is a device that we have been hearing about for a while ever since its alleged specs got leaked back in July.

Tizen, along with Firefox OS, Ubuntu, Blackberry OS and Windows Mobile, are second-tier alternatives to Android and Apple’s iOS, which together dominate the smartphone market. Samsung needs to attract more smartphone users to the operating system in order to gain more third-party developer support, analysts say.

The new device will go on sale on October 21 for 8,490 Indian rupees, or about $130, Samsung said. We were encouraged by the huge popularity of Samsung Z1, the first Tizen OS powered smartphone that sold over one million units within six months of its launch earlier this year,”said H.C Hong, president and CEO, Samsung India Electronics”. It features Samsung’s Ultra Power Saving Mode. It’s run by a 1.3 GHz Spreadtrum SC7730S SoC processor and allows for expanding the storage capacity to about 128GB using microSD card slot. It runs on Tizen 2.4 OS and carries a 5-inch Super AMOLED 720p screen. So instead of backing away from Tizen, which has now expanded to smartwatches, Samsung is advancing the platform with the brand new Z3. Exclusive online sales are through Snapdeal and the phone will also be available through offline channels. It will come with 1GB of free data for two months for Vodafone customers.

Samsung’s India R&D engineers developed My Galaxy, Mix Radio, Ultra Data and Power Saving modes, Special Days UX and Enhanced Messaging-features, which are specific to Indian consumers. Just like all the other Z series phones from Samsung, even the Z3 comes baked with the Opera Max data Compression technology which helps users to drastically save on data usage by using Opera’s servers.

And in September, Samsung unveiled the Gear S2 smartwatch, the latest in a string of wrist-mounted devices powered by Tizen.

On the camera front, the Z3 boasts of an 8MP rear camera and a 5MP front facing camera.
