FAISALABAD: The Anti-Smuggling Organisation (ASO), Sara-e-Muhajir, has confiscated a huge quantity of smuggled cloths. The market value of the seized cloth is Rs 180,000 involving customs duty and taxes of Rs 31,037 including impounded Toyota Corolla car worth Rs 900,000.
Sources informed Customs Today that Deputy Collector Rizwan Khan received a tip-off about the smuggling bid. An ASO team intercepted a Toyota Corolla car near the police checkpost of Dajil district Bhakkar bearing registration No: LEC-15-6434 and recovered a huge quantity of imported velvet cloths weighed 110-Kgs, which was being transported to Quetta from Mainwali.
The ASO team asked the driver of the vehicle namely Muhammad Rasool son of Barat Khan, tehsil and district D.I Khan, to produce legal documents of the possession of cloths and vehicle, but he failed to provide any relevant documents. So ASO team seized the cloths and non-duty paid vehicle under Section 16, 18 of the Customs Act 1969 and forwarded the case to the customs adjudication.
