Sara-i-Muhajir ASO seizes cigarettes, stationery items during crackdown

SARA-I-MUHAJIR:  Anti- Smuggling Organization (ASO) seized imported foreign cigarettes and led pencils worth Rs 1 million during a crackdown.

Sources told Customs Today that the smuggled cigarettes and led pencils were being transported into Mianwali through Multan Road. Thus a raiding party headed by ASO was constituted which held a ‘naka’ near Kotla Jam Chowk Bhakkar. The team intercepted a passenger bus bearing registration no LES-3293 and recovered cigarettes and led pencils.

ASO official asked the driver Umar Bhatti to produce legal documentary evidence of the said items but the accused failed to produce any documents relating to its legal import.

After this cigarettes and pencils seized under the relevant provision of the Import and Export (Control) Act 1950 Section 156 (1) 89(i) of the Customs Act 1969.

ASO detecting staff consisted of Inspector Muhammad Munawar Rathore, Havaldar Ghualm Sarwar, Sepoy Riaz Ahmed, Ziaul Hassan, Said Rasool, Amin Bhatti and Safdar Hussain. The seizure report was sent to the customs adjudication department for further legal action.
