Sargodha ASO seizes non duty paid taramind

SARGODHA: The Customs Anti smuggling Organization (ASO) foiled a smuggling attempt and confiscated foreign origin non duty paid taramind packed in bags worth Rs 709700 involving customs duty and taxes of Rs 222075 and impounded an offending carrier Hyundai van.

Sources told Customs Today that Collector Mirza Mubashir Baig received a tip off regarding transportation of smuggled items. He formed a special team comprising Superintendent Chaudhary Sardar Muhammad, Inspectors Malik Atif Mumtaz and Sepoy Muhammad Iqbal, Muhammad Amin and Shafqat Mehmood to foil the attempt.

The ASO team started checking vehicles near Pindi Bhatian Motorway Toll Plaza. The ASO team intercepted a Hyundai van bearing registration no: RIS-3297 loaded with foreign origin ‘imli’ 2350 kilogram. The team asked the driver Nisar Ahmed to produce legal documents regarding the possession and transportation of the goods but he failed to do so.

The ASO team impounded the loaded ‘imli’ along with the offending vehicle. The ASO registered a case of smuggling against the accused under Section 168 of the Customs Act 1969 and forwarded the case to the Customs Adjudication for further proceeding.
