MULTAN: A joint effort by Collectorate of Customs Sargodha and law enforcement agencies (LAEs) has intercepted a major smuggling operation, preventing the illicit entry of non-customs paid foreign cigarettes, ropes, and rolls valued at millions of rupees during their action.
Acting on intelligence provided by Collector Customs Sargodha Syed Ali Abbas Gardezi to field staff of Anti-smuggling organization Dera Ghazi Khan. Inspector Tahir Abbas and his team were alerted after passing special information indicating a significant smuggling attempt from Quetta to Dera Ghazi Khan.
Customs teams intensified monitoring along suspected routes of Dera Ghazi Khan. Collaboration with Sakhi Sarwar Police and other authorities ensured a coordinated crackdown to minimize any potential risks during the operation.
The interception near the Sakhi Sarwar region led to the seizure of a large quantity of assorted non-customs paid cigarettes and other contraband items. These confiscated goods have been securely transferred to the state warehouse of Customs authorities.
With a firm resolve to combat smuggling, Customs has mobilized its field forces and remains vigilant to address the economic challenges posed by such illegal activities.
The recent seizure, comprising non-customs paid foreign cigarettes, ropes, and rolls, underscores the persistent efforts to disrupt smuggling networks operating from Balochistan to Punjab. The value of seized goods are almost Rs12 million. Further investigation are still under way.
Customs authorities reaffirm their commitment to undertaking robust actions in collaboration with law enforcement agencies to counter smuggling effectively.
