RIYADH: Saudi Food and Drug Authority (SFDA) has determined to temporarily suspend the import of fish and shrimps from Viet Nam. The ban follows the regulatory procedure for fish and other aquaculture export establishments.
The decision was taken by a delegation of regulators, including SFDA, Ministry of Environment, Water and Agriculture and Saudi Aquaculture Society, after inspection visits to 24 Vietnamese facilities that exported to Saudi Arabia.
The inspections found that only nine facilities met the hygiene requirements of Saudia Arabia. The suspension will be maintained until the facilities comply to Saudi Arabia’s requirements.
With this emergency measure, it is intended to prevent the introduction of white spot disease and acute hepatopancreatic necrosis disease into the country.
