RIYADH: Saudi Arabia is planning to introduce a 2.5 percent tax on unused land in areas earmarked for development. During an initial phase, only substantial plots of land in Riyadh will be subject to the levy. Later it will be expanded to other areas of the country and to smaller plots, to boost housing supply in the country. In May last year, the country said that the tax would be levied on individuals and non-government entities.
