JEDDAH: Border Guards arrested 2,952 people trying to smuggle illegal items into the Kingdom over the past nine months.
According to recent statistics, Border Guards seized 418,868 weapons and ammunition, as well as stopped 8,706 attempts to smuggle in animals and birds. Almost 70 percent of the seizures occurred along the Saudi-Yemeni border.
Adm. Bashir bin Mofleh Balawi, commander of the Border Guards in Furasan, said the maritime border is not free of Yemeni refugees who are trying to escape from the war in their country, but they are treated in accordance with rules and regulations, and the security situation along the sea border is stable.
He said fishermen have been working daily since the start of Decisive Storm, and did not encounter any challenges or fear sailing in territorial waters.
Border Guards are on a constant state of alert, and work around the clock to protect the borders of the homeland, he said.
