JEDDAH: Customs officers at King Abdulaziz International Airport (KAIA) in Jeddah foiled two separate attempts to smuggle a total of 4.36 kilograms of gold ornaments that were found hidden in the underwear of two arriving passengers, said Muhammad Al-Aqeel, director of the airport customs.
In the first smuggling attempt, the ornaments weighing 2.36 kilograms were hidden in the passenger’s underwear and socks.
In the second incident, another passenger attempted to smuggle 2 kilograms of gold ornaments that were hidden under his clothes. Both men were apparently trying to avoid paying customs duties on the gold.
