KARACHI: The State Bank of Pakistan (SBP) has announced a bank holiday on Wednesday, August 26, 2026, on the occasion of Eid Milad-un-Nabi (Sallallahu Alayhi Wa-Sallam).
In a circular issued to presidents and chief executives of all banks, Development Finance Institutions (DFIs) and Microfinance Banks (MFBs), the central bank said its offices would remain closed on August 26, corresponding to 12th Rabi-ul-Awwal 1448 AH.
The announcement follows the federal government’s decision to declare August 26 a public holiday across Pakistan to mark Eid Milad-un-Nabi.
SBP offices to remain closed
The SBP said the bank holiday would be observed on Wednesday, August 26, in connection with the birth anniversary of Prophet Muhammad (Peace Be Upon Him).
As a result, SBP offices and banking operations covered by the central bank’s notification will remain closed for the public holiday.
The notification applies to the banking sector institutions covered by the SBP’s directive.
Government declares August 26 public holiday
The Cabinet Division had earlier notified August 26, 2026, as a public holiday on the occasion of Eid Milad-un-Nabi.
According to the notification, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif approved the declaration of Wednesday, August 26, as a public holiday corresponding to 12th Rabi-ul-Awwal 1448 AH.
The holiday was announced in continuation of the Cabinet Division’s earlier circular issued on January 19 concerning public and optional holidays for 2026.
